WHAT TO EXPECT
We'll do everything possible to ensure your comfort on the day of surgery. You'll relax with a foot massage prior to the procedure, nap as the transplantation is performed, eat a catered lunch and read a book or watch a DVD in the afternoon.
HEALING FROM SURGERY
After a brief rest period following surgery, you will be ready to leave the clinic. Many patients return to work the following day and resume a full fitness and exercise regimen within a week. The transplanted area will have crusting or scabbing and may look pink — like a sunburn — for seven to ten days after the surgery. Patients with skin that is prone to redness may notice a slight pinkness somewhat longer. An assessment of this tendency is performed at the consultation.
Normally however, evidence of the transplant goes undetected by others until months later when they notice your fuller head of hair.
GETTING BACK TO NORMAL
The "dormant" period between surgery and new hair growth is typically two to three months. However, it doesn't all grow at once, and you will notice that each hair has its own timetable. About 20 percent of the hair grows between the second and fourth months, with about 60 to 70 percent growing between the fifth and eighth months. The final stage of growth may occur as late as month 10.
